Ajinomoto acquires Blendy and Maxim coffee brands for ¥26 billion

5 Nov

Ajinomoto has acquired the brands and logos for several popular instant coffee brands, including Blendy, Maxim and Triplesso. In April 2015, Ajinomoto bought out the 50% of Ajinomoto General Foods (AGF) still owned by Mondelez International, but the brands had stayed under ownership by Dutch firm Jacob Douwe Egberts.

Ajinomoto already has the largest share of the instant coffee market.

The move is the latest in a series of consolidating moves by Japanese food makers, cutting out overseas suppliers and taking back control (or giving up control and distribution) of major brands popular in supermarkets.
