Mitsubishi has held a 33.3% share in Lawson for years, and has been the de facto controller of the company covering everything from top management appointments down to strategy. It is now looking to boost its share to at least 51%, making Lawson a full subsidiary.
This is part of its plan to better integrate its role as Japan’s largest food wholesaler, and bring together its various and growing food retail interests.
